(Nerd) Lunch Special: The Wendy’s Stack Attack

The Stack Attack is a relatively new addition to Wendy’s Super Value Menu and, in my area, would seem to be a replacement for the old 99 cents warhorse, the Double Stack, which has disappeared from most locations in recent years. The Stack Attack is comprised of two 1/8 lb beef patties topped with a slice of American cheese, ketchup, and mayonnaise. There may not be a “better double cheeseburger out there for only 99 cents”, but personally I think the buck would be better spent on a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger. The Stack Attack is probably worth checking out if you’re a connoisseur of value menus, but it won’t revolutionize your lunch hour no matter how many Lincoln impersonators they have in the TV commercial.

Wendy's definitely seems to have meandered a bit since Dave departed for the big burger joint in the sky. Frescata, anyone?

In their defense, the latest management team seems to be holding the line on some of things that were probably Dave's principles. The Super Value Menu has more or less returned to form compared with several years ago when they removed many items and raised the prices on others to $1.29 or $1.49. Though with these inflationary times, we're probably not far from seeing that move again.

Fortunately, when I first encountered the Stack Attack, I was at a Wendy's where they still carried the Double Stack. There was no choice.

Since the great Dave Thomas passed, I have found Wendy's as a whole to be mostly disappointing. And that's sad to say because it used to be my favorite fast food/quick service joint.
