Punch Out!

CT recommended The Atomic Geeks podcast several weeks ago and I’ve been checking it out since then. Their latest episode was a discussion of best fights scenes. A great topic and my favorite of the four shows I’ve listened to.

I was pleased that they mentioned both of my top picks:

1) The back alley slobberknocker between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David in They Live!.

2) The final hall of mirrors fight in Enter The Dragon between Bruce Lee and Shih Kien.

Unfortunately, neither of these made the cut to be on The AGs’ top five. Boo! Hiss!

Let’s hear it, Nerd Lunchers. What’s your favorite move or TV fight scene?

Well I tell ya Jeeg. Those Eastwood monkey movies are anything but "high art." Needless to say that's not always a bad thing in my book. But any fight scene where the combatants take a break to have a beer is automatically moved to my win win column if you ask me.

Christian, as you guys were talking about that fight scene I realized I have no recollection of those films beyond "Left turn, Clyde." I'll need to revisit those I guess.

I'll be interested in your take on this episode, CT. In a way, I think the classic Star Trek/Star Wars divide is in play. Good call on the Spidey 2 scene; everything about that movie kicks ass.

    To The Guth!

I have to confess that I haven't had a chance to listen to this particular podcast yet, so I don't know which fight scenes won yet.

I'm not sure I have a list of the best, but I'll throw some fight scenes out there that came to mind…

Many of the fight scenes in the Matrix trilogy are fun even if they are sometimes over the top and overly fake.

The Spider-Man 2 fight scene atop the train was spectacular. Or was it amazing?

The Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul sequence had potential but was ruined but the inter-splicing of garbage I didn't care about.

The Transporter (and just the first one) had a couple fun fight scenes including one that involved motor oil.

Also, on Twitter there was talk about the fight scene in Superman II being good. I've got to disagree there and say it's topped by the Superman/Clark Kent fight scene in Superman III. Even though it's a lousy movie, it's one redeeming quality is that fight scene.

Oh, and thanks to Wiisty (I assume) for mentioning the fight scene in Tastes Like Chicken. I give The Guth all the credit for that though. THE GUTH!!!

I'm partial to the fight scene in David Von Fange: Tastes Like Chicken!

In retrospect I should have also put in the fight from the end of Any Which Way You Can. Stupid host! I blame the beer. Thanks for the write up fellas
